    Capoeria

Every thread I could find is 234892 pages long. I was wondering if anyone here does capoeira? Obviously it is not good as a stand alone method in an actual fight, but to me it seems like it would be an incredibly beneficial art to practice, along with something a little more 'realistic', for timing and conditioning (plus it looks like a whole lot of fun). Does anyone have any experience?

Also, this is a cool video of some more-then-usual contact Capoeira:

Good looking dance movements. Similar to gymnastics. While coordination, rythm, flexibility, and spacial awareness are all good attributes to have they probably aren't going to save your ass.

Practical and applicable fighting style? No.

Cool, but I thought I said that already. No need for people to start bashing Capoeira's fighting usefullness here, as it's been done over and over. It's a game, that's all. I was just saying that the skills you learn from it could be carried over to other MAs, and was wondering if anyone has crosstrained in capoeira and saw any benefit.

    Re-read your post, scrub.

You didn't exactly bash it and neither did I. But you weren't crystal clear in acknowledging it's effectiveness as you saw it as 'extremely beneficial'. I was making it crystal clear. In fact I even identified some of the benefits.

I am just very blunt when I make sure that practical application is not listed as one of the benefits.

Ignore Yrkoon, he was turned down for a date by a local Capoiera instructor.

    Several times.

And now she's filing a restraining order to stop him from following her.

the principal virtue of Capoiera is that the chicks who come into our BJJ gym to train in it are all smoking. it's like yoga with all the fat girls weeded out.

Hey, a good yoga class weeds out the fat chicks after the first class, too!!!

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

I checked it out once. $5 for the class. It was fun. It was a very hard work out. There were hot chicks/dudes. One visiting meistre from brazil looked like he could make the kicks and trips work ON DA STR33T. He moved a lot differently than everyone else. No one else in the class - even the local instructor - seemed to care about the combat aspect.

Also they all wore cotton pants that looked pretty comfy.
