If I could go back to High School, I would immediately try to join the team as a Freshman.
Think about it. You're getting free, daily training in grappling. You've essentially got a built in promoter, free access to training equipment, free access to a matted gym, and free access to like minded training partners.
Did I mention that its free?
Sure, it isn't BJJ...but the positioning skills are excellent, the escapes/reversals are solid, and the takedowns are often superior to BJJ. They also focus heavily on conditioning, so you'll get in excellent shape and set the basis of fitness for the rest of your athletic life.
Do it. Stop typing, get out of your desk chair, and join the fucking team. -
