Does High School wrestling suck? I keep hearing stories of backyard wrestlers and female Judoka beating these guys.

This is very simple.
Go to your local high school.
Say exactly what you typed.
I'm sure you can find someone to help you answer this question.
The hood mentality is crippling disease, that attacks your nervous system. It makes you nervous of the system. Gangsters and hood rats are especially susceptible to this growth stunting mentality. The hood is where I'm from, but it's not what I am. The hood is where I'm from, but it's not what I am. --Keith David--Ice Cube

It can't be worse than what you're doing now.

If I could go back to High School, I would immediately try to join the team as a Freshman.
Think about it. You're getting free, daily training in grappling. You've essentially got a built in promoter, free access to training equipment, free access to a matted gym, and free access to like minded training partners.
Did I mention that its free?
Sure, it isn't BJJ...but the positioning skills are excellent, the escapes/reversals are solid, and the takedowns are often superior to BJJ. They also focus heavily on conditioning, so you'll get in excellent shape and set the basis of fitness for the rest of your athletic life.
Do it. Stop typing, get out of your desk chair, and join the fucking team.

Can you beleive they used to have boxing and shooting as high school sports at my school in the 50s and 60s?
I was jealous

we had a shooting program as part of the hunters safety course but I'm fairly certain that got removed due to people whining abouts mean old guns.
