2nd Annual USA Amateur Shooto Competition held in June 1994 - maybe we can extrapolate that the 1st one was the same time the year before June 1993? If so this would beat UFC 1 by 5-6 months. http://cgi.ebay.ca/INOSANTO-AMATEUR-...QQcmdZViewItem

Obviously we can tell which one was marketed better and has survived. Anyone have any experience with Shooto from back then? Obviously people were doing some kind of MMA in the US before UFC 1 aired, albeit on a small scale.
1994 vs 1993 and you don't know which came first? Wrong year comparison?

Shootfighting was well before UFC, Shootboxing was here in the U.S. Shooto was an offshoot promotion from the Shootfigting/Pancrase style/promotion.

I think he's saying that if the second annual competition was held in June of 94, then the first annual competition would have been held the same time the previous year-- several months before UFC 1.

Well I know which year came first but I had no link to provide that showed what month the first amateur Shooto comp was. So I said maybe we could assume that it happened in June 1993
(since the 2nd happened in June 94) which would beat UFC by a few months. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

Another classic BJJ nutriding thread presented here...by SevSB

    http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=36459

Why don't some of the qualified BJJ person jump in there and put the rider in place for making very, very vague comment and basically trying to say BJJ pwns the world then decided to change his mind when pressed.

    Such as this...

In that thread someone already pointed out fact that BJJ includes knife defense.
