Now, I'm NOT an instructor or anything, but if FSD wants to know where they stand and be able to give honest assessments, I'd say two things.
1. Make sparring part of class. Not necessarily mandatory, but definitely not extra. It should be the core of anyone who wants to ACTUALLY do more than a pretty martial dance (I believe they already understand this, as I saw some progress while I was there in attempting to have it be more available, but it still cost extra).
2. Compete. I'd like to KNOW how good my instructors are against other people. Unless you have a vested interest in hiding your skills, I fail to see a downside. And let's face it, if Sifu MartinP *is* the second coming of the martial arts world, then dammit, SHARE THAT WITH THE WORLD. Having FSD practitioners competing and winning would ensure HUGE membership gains, and they could still teach the eye gouging and nut-kickin' if they so chose. Bas Rutten sure does. -

Compete outside their system.
In general:
Closed tournaments are internally descructive. Either open your own tournaments and invite people from other systems or get your students to other peoples tournaments. The important part if you invite others is to not fool yourself by restricitng the ruleset to only your favored techniques, a la TKD. -
My pleasure.

Call it what it is. Don't fix it. Let it die. It is has bad genes. Virus like, it requires hosts such as the instigator of this thread, to live on.
"Fix me!", FSD cried out.
"It's Okay, big fella. Everything will be alright."
"Will I have my rabbit farm?"
" Yes, rabbits and more', I pulled the trigger and FSD was off to the rabbit farm forever.
(Apologises to big Lenny)
Once you get through with this Frankenstien's monster, it still has the underpinning of FSD. Let SeeFool fix it. After all, it's not like he has an ego problem. His vast alleged knowledge built the alleged FSD. Let him make changes as he sees fit. His bottom line is deminished. No money hurts him alot right in the greedy bone. If you want to throw a life-saver to him, may I suggest lemon.

Rename this thread, "Save FSD.... and Other Big Fishes"
Jp got stupid stones, if he put someone up to this.

I don't wanna play the devil's advocate, but isn't the way (and how much!) you pay for FSD a part of the system?
Anyways, real ground work, legitimate weaponry, more aliveness and progressive sparring, less patty cake non-sense like chi sao and breaking arrows on your throat...
hmm what else? They need to have a more open mind to the MA world, you know like not saying all the time that all other MA are totally incomplete and crap. They could also participate to competitions.
But in the end all those problems are the results of this little fellow : $.
...So yeah, I guess it's pointless to debate about how FSD could be better, since they are too much after your money to do those changes, and you can get better instruction in other schools.
