If it's a properly thrown punch, the power doesn't come "from...youre [sic] chest muscles" at all. Even I know that.
I got nothing else, sorry.
EDIT: I do have a link to something useful.

I second that. Bruce Lee (I know I know, I said the name-that-must-never-be-made) and everybody in JKD I can think of talked/talk A LOT about putting your weight behind your punches. That is, the powah doesn't come from the arm or chest muscle.

*** EDIT ***
Get Terry Tom's "The Straight Lead" - it's an interesting book about Lee's straight lead punch and go ad nauseum about how to generate punching power BY PUTTING YOUR WEIGHT BEHIND (the book explicitly says that this is not based on muscle.)...
... or get some basic boxing books like Hatmaker's "Boxing Mastery"... or better yet, forget books. Just change to a better school.Last edited by Teh El Macho; 6/30/2006 8:29am at .

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris -

oh god, not again...
Punch with your whole body, people. Start with your toes, finish with the knuckles.
And use the search function:

And Kano spake: "Do not be concerned with the mote in thy neighbor's eye, when verily thou hast a massive stick in thine ass".
