    News Update:

Hatboro man accused of corrupting minors

    By: Ryan Bagwell 05/30/2003

A two-month investigation by Jenkintown police resulted in the arrest of a longtime borough businessman May 23 after allegations of sexual misconduct with at least two female juveniles surfaced, according to police.

Lee Glazier, 38, of the unit block of Williams Lane, Hatboro, was arrested and charged with two counts each of corruption of minors and indecent assault. He was arraigned before District Justice Juanita Price and is currently being held in a Montgomery County jail on $500,000 cash bail, police said. According to Jenkintown police Chief Albert DiValentino, a 15-year-old female, accompanied by her parents, came to police several weeks ago with complaints of indecent assault against Glazier. The female was a student at Action Karate, Glazier's business, located in the 200 block of Leedom Street, DiValentino said. According to police, he was able to gain her trust, as well as that of another victim, and made sexually explicit advances to both females.

Police would not elaborate on the specific nature of Glazier's alleged actions citing confidentiality of the victims. County detectives were brought in to aid police in the investigation, DiValentino said. After they became involved, police were able to identify four other possible victims and possibly more, he said. Altogether, the victims range in age from 14 to 16 years old, police said. Search and arrest warrants in the case were sealed, DiValentino said, to protect the identity of the victims involved. For Jenkintown's relatively small police department, an arrest the magnitude of Glazier's is uncommon. But a humble DiValentino maintained his department was just doing its job. "We heard the complaint, we gathered the facts and we made the arrest," DiValentino said. When asked if any indications pointed to the victims making untruthful allegations, DiValentino said, "Kids generally don't lie in cases of sexual abuse," adding that he doesn't have any sense the teenage girls were insincere in their accounts.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 2 before Elkins Park District Justice Michael Richman, police said, at which time the judge will determine if enough evidence exists to continue the charges. If the case continues, Glazier will be tried in Montgomery County Court, DiValentino said. "Everybody says he's a good guy," said DiValentino, who knew Glazier personally from his borough business. "I even thought he was a good guy."
