Hey - thanks again for the tips!

I know next to nothing about Butterfly Guard, and I never play it when we roll.

I keep getting swept from the top of 1/2 Guard with butterfly hooks, so maybe I ought to look into this!

Stephan's butterfly and x-guard DVD is stellar. He also told me that he's finishing up production on a half guard DVD, which includes a section on half butterfly guard.

Kesting may not have the "name value" of a Marcelo or a Saulo, but his instructionals are all top notch.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET, I hope he's taking preorders.

I like how he breaks things down, which is essential for guys like me who don't regularly train with grappling instructors.

The vast majority of BJJ suffers from lack of "name value". It still blows people's minds that my instructor's lineage doesn't trace back through Helio or somehow include Royce. There are a LOT of highly skilled and even world champion fighters you just never really hear about.

I think a lot of that has to do with media. Rorion is all over the place so you hear about him, Helio, Royce, etc; and that's who you're average person with no experience tends to hear about BJJ is through them, media wise. They still get alot of coverage then the lesser known but potentially(?) better but lesser known instructors.

I found the rubber guard to be immensely helpful, and the monkey mount worked out real well for me. I kept triangling and armbarring everyone just as they were about to escape. Still getting tooled by those that get a secure side control on me. bah....
