Yea I heard that story awhile ago, Ive never done mushrooms (or any hallucinogen for fear of my own imagination) but from what some of my friends have told me its pretty mellow compared to acid. Any thoughts on the possibility that shrooms could cause such a violent reaction? Preferably from the hippie bullies out there, I know who you are.

Pretty much. There's a small amount of risk that an underlying psychosis will be triggered by acid in particular, however for normal individuals mushrooms and lsd (assuming you haven't picked the wrong mushrooms) are both pretty much safer than any illicit (and most prescription) medications you can get your hands on. There's no evidence linking either to long term side effects (well, there's a rare mental condition from lsd, but people haven't shown whether that's just people with existing conditions), and neither are physically addictive. The article doesn't show what a normal person will do on shrooms, the article shows what someone with severe and debilitating mental conditions will do anyway without treatment, which might have been sped up by shrooms.
At least that was the case 3 years ago when I had access to every scientific journal under the sun. Haven't kept up to date with the research.Last edited by stealth_monkey; 6/16/2011 4:07am at .
