Practicing gun fighting or knife fighting or even sword fighting is not LARPing as long as you aren't playing a role.

But since they are playing the role of a cowboy it is LARPing.

There is actually a medieval fighting thing in Hagerstown at city park. They have tournaments and the guy with the morning star kicked all the sword fighters asses. It bends around and is impossible to block since it's flexible. I don't know why everyone uses swords. Bo-staff, nunchucks, and morningstar will always defeat a sword.

Flail actually...the weapon is called a flail. The reason why it works so well in boffer fighting is because the boffer version handles much differantly from the real version of the weapon.

A staff has an advantage over a sword, but nunchucks are a joke of a weapon (I'd take MMA gloves as my weapon before nunchucks).

I think LARPing is fine if you don't think you are going to learn actual combat skills. Modern pistol shooting is a great deal different from the WW West, first off the weapons are far superior tridium (sp?) sights, high capacity magazines, etc. require different skills than quickdraw/ shoot. Plus, didn't Hickcock say it was better to be accurate than fast.

Have you ever fought nunchucks? Saying nunchucks don't work is like a kung fu guy saying BJJ doesn't work in the street.

All those sword fighters thought they had the best weapon. Then a flail fighter came and kicked all their asses. It might as well of been a pair of nunchucks.

Please report to the nearest ARMA group with a flail to test your theory.

I've actually had an open challenege going of for some time now. So far no one has accepted.

I am willing to prove nunchucks are the best hand to hand weapon. If anyone wants to have a weapon fight i will use nunchucks and you can use whatever you want (besides a bo-staff or flail. I already know those weapons are good).

I'm not saying they wont work, i'm saying my hands work better.
