    Hell yeah! Hell no!
Who cares if it's LARPing? As long as you KNOW it's LARPing then it's just dorky. The real harm is when people think their LARPing is something serious.

Seriously, I am not sure what CAS is.
Anyone doing a martial art who isn't doing it purely for exercise and/or competition is LARPing.

Actually, any sport where you have to play dress up is LARPing.

CAS is LARPing and LARPing is, by definition, quite dorky.

But there is a spectrum of dorkiness.

I'm going to take an educated guess here and say that the CAS crowd's other interests include country music and big trucks.

Whereas the SCA lifestyle overlaps with pudgy guys with ponytails, anime, RPGs and 'puters.

So the boffer crowd will endure some insults when they defeat the orcs in the park. But know one will **** with the Rednecks toting sixguns.

CAS related trivia: back in his old Gunsmoke and man-with-no-name days, Clint Eastwood got into cowboy shooting to help his act. He eventually got QUITE good and won a number of quickdraw-and-shoot competitions.
