The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

I'm going to throw a little anthropolgy out there and wait to be slapped around but here goes. There is a theory and I am trying to remember who first hypothized it that extreme warlike cultures like the Vikings, Apache, and the Samurai are easily pacified becuase the warrior tradition has such a harsh impact on society that it causes the general populace to reject violence.
Of course, I think they're just a bunch o' pussies! And they listen to way too much ABBA! :qleft6:

The new law states that all combat sport (pro boxing, K1, UFC, etc.) promoters need a license from the state to stage competitions; said license will only be granted only if the safety of the athletes can be guaranteed 100% safe (like in checkers or chess).
They should start paying off people to go on mini-rampages during chess, checkers, and other "safe" state-sancationed sport matches. 100% safe indeed.

Hockey is big in Sweden, people get hurt playing hockey all he time, even in Sweden.
how do they justify that?

This is how the debate has been going back and forth.
The card pulled out by banners = "lol martial artists WANT to HURT people!"
And the MA community sighs in unison while their minister of sports or whatever it's called doesn't look like he's ever done any kinds of sports in his entire life.
The whole thing is just.. I don't know what.. It's hard to believe really..
More human than human is our motto.

Seriously, this is Bosse Ringholm's (Currently minister of sports, ex-minister of finance. Possibly Sweden's most incompetent minister ever) reasoning that won the votes.
-"Combat sports are dangerous. People get hit in the head."
-"Nearly all sports are dangerous. People have recieved incapacitating injuries playing soccer, ice hockey, ping-pong, riding horses, etc.. Show us how today's combat sports are any worse than these."
-"I don't think those statistics are relevant in in this issue. Combat sports are violent."
-"Well I hear you once sucked off a horse."
Badness will not be rewarded
