    It directs a downward force on the end of the barrel. Helps keep your gun from rising when firing full auto.

    Trips the bullet.....Well if they are refering to the cut on the barrel at 45 degrees. Occordign to Mr. Kalishnakov(sp?) he built them this way to reduce muzzel rise as previously stated. It is possible Magic misunder stood the question and thought the gas return was in queston? Maybe trips the bullet when it comes out means cycles the action. Ejectes a spent cartridge and allows the spring set to feed another round from the magazine......but WTF do i know.

    Having served in the navy and not the army, I stand corrected. Actually we would either use 5 inch shells, or tomahawk cruise missiles.
