YES! - listen to Kein Haar - I have some undiagnosed knee injury at the moment. I thought swimming would be a good no-impact workout, but I did 1 breast-stroke kick and F-d my **** up.
I'm not saying avoid swimming, but for reference, my knee injury acts up with lateral motion (not like a soccer kick), and the breast stroke was no good for me.
Good luck with your recovery - hope it's speedy.

Swimming is good for injuries. Just don't do the Breaststroke. A mile is a lot farther than you think and isn't the same as running.

Not if he wants a workout. Sidestroke is more of a resting position.

I used to swim in highschool, and I thought i might add that i had knew a friend that tore his acl playing football and decided to swim on the team the next year. Anyway hes completely recovered now and he feels that swimming had alot to do with it. Like the others said breaststroke can aggravate your knee, try backstroke or crawl.
