    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Misaki's 'taichi' takedown - good or not?

As some of you may know, I have a fetish for taichi applications. No, don't detain me yet, I've got alive video.

This is from Misaki x Baroni in the latest Pride. When Phil was gassed out, Misaki used this throw/sweep to put him on his back:
    http://web.mit.edu/mao/Public/misaki_takedown.wmv

From what I've read, this is a taichi move, but I'm sure that it exists in judo, etc.

From this fight, it seems it's low percentage and depends on your opponent not being able to balance out of it (in this case Phil was tired out and slow).

    Any comments?

    I downloaded the clip.

It's 0:07 and totally choppy. I can't even see the takedown happen.

    Anybody else have this problem?

No. I see it clearly and smoothly. I always thought that was a basic Judo throw? It was at kind of an angle this time, but you can't always be perfect.

    Weird.

At first I thought I was seeing the takedown, and then an instant replay, but it appears to be 2 seperate ones.

The first time, he performs the takedown and is in the guys guard.

The second time, he does the thing, but then has the guys back.

    er?

Pretty much a osoto gari from a left-handed position. I like the fact Misaki just went for it. As Cullion said, that throw is bound to exist in other arts by different names, it just happens most people would associate it with judo.

    Me likey clippie!!!

You need to watch it a couple of times. At first, it's quite fast - watch it, and wait until you hear "nice takedown!". At that point, there is a repetion of the same throw in slow-mo... still fast for slow-mo, but the throw is much clear to see at that point.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

it's much looser than an osotogari, but I guess it works the same way.
I wonder if Misaki intended osotogari or specifically the way he did it.

edit: the clip should be two different throws in sequence. No slo-mo.

It just looks like a modified Osoto Gari, do you have any pictures or clips of the Tai Chi version?

See my second post. I don't think it's a replay.

Somebody prove me wrong. I love being proved wrong.

    edit: just saw mengs post.

I'd like a bit of context if you don't mind.
Was he able to pull this off twice in the same fight?
