Ghost in the Shell will become reality. Wait that's not a good one. Let's see Johnny Mnemony. The one with Keanu Reaves.

    Mnemonic.

Coincidentally, also a William Gibson book, as referenced by Shawarma.

It's on my bookshelf. Gotta read that **** someday. Neuromancer, that is.

One of my Human Factors profs worked on something like this before he became an academic. They were designing a computer for mechanics in the Air Force or Navy (don't remember which) that didn't require your hands to use. It worked off of reading where you looked at on the screen (one of those clear eye patch looking things) and signals from your brain.

Mnemonic is a short story. But as we get into the world cyberpunk predicted, we probably see more parallels. Such as, what happens when the first virus targets this interface?

Im doing research with a company (http://www.brainwavescience.com/) that uses similar technology that can do what you saw in the article and a bit more. Neurophysiology is really about to take off as a commercial science. Not only can we now use brain response in order to allow people to communicate via a headband only (and this isn't quite as straightforward as you might be thinking), but we can also use this technology to detect alzheimers years before conventional tests, and we can tell if specific information is or is not stored in the brain (ie it can be used to tell if someone has knowledge of a crime that only the perpetrator would know or someone has undergone terrorist training, things that someone innocent would claim to have no knowledge of). The big new research is in advertising. We can tell how people are responding to ads, and scientifically determine if they really like them. This is going to be one of the next big things:)
