Whether a system "does" or "does not" have groundfighting (or any set of techniques, for that matter) is an interesting question.

Shooter's posts prove that a sophisticated art like Taiji can adapt its principles to the ground with ease. Shooter - you did design the fast wrestling set yourself, didn't you?

You're very welcome, everyone. And thank y'all.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with the 'grapplers' I've met and trained with. Very open-minded and accepting of anyone who will put up. Fiercely competitive, no doubt. That can often be mistaken for arrogance or whatever, but that's how they keep it real.

Xuanlong Xian, I've been accused of reinventing the wheel. ;-)

Yes, I did develop it myself. I'd heard about a couple of other people doing the same with their TCC out here in BC when I first started learning. One of them published his Tai Chi Fast-wrestling book and it was only years later that one of my students lent me his copy. I was well into my own thing by that time though.

    Shooter,

I may be suffering from head trauma, but I could have sworn I saw a book out by Ming{can't spell the rest of the name} on fast wrestling about two weeks back. How old or new it was I can't say. I didn't check it out as I was out of time and knew I'd be late picking up the wife if I looked at one more book. Have you seen the book or heard anything on it good or bad?

Well, there's Liang Shouyu's "Chinese Fast Wrestling for Fighting". Can't comment on it, unfortunately.

why exactly "fast" wrestling? prefer to end the grappling engagement as quickly and cleanly as possible instead of rolling around?

I am now a grappler, and I ASSURE you, we would prefer to end the grappling engagement "as quickly and cleanly as possible instead of rolling around". Jeez.

Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog

Yeah, but I don't think you can deny that BJJ is a lot less agressive and concerned with ending things fast than other grappling styles. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is debatable, though (personally, I like the more aggressive style, especially since I'm very small, and being in the guard against someone big who can strike well is a bad idea in general).

BJJ can be slow - I really think it depends on the practitioner. I think the most entertaining and most skillful fights are those that involve a big guy versus someone smaller. I've seen some crazy flips and spins pulled off (with control and speed) because the smaller guy has to prevent the bigger one from setting things up.

Where can I find these Taichi fast wrestling books?
