    UFC Lightweight Division

I've been seeing alot of 155 lb. fighters lately in the UFC. Several welterweights have dropped down to lightweight to claim dominance.

If eventually there is a lightweight champion, who would it be. I think Kenny Florian could be a good candidate for it. Neverless there is sure to be some good fights in the future between fighters to establish themselves at this weight class. What do you guys think?

Sean Sherk. He's dropping down as well, and he gets my vote for next Lightweight champion.

It's funny, though, I was just having a conversation about this with a friend of mine.

    Sean Sherk
    Spencer Fisher
    Joe Stevenson
    Melvin Guillard
    Sam Stout
    Kenny Florian

All are now at 155. Hopefully they'll bring Mark Hominick and Yves Edwards back, too, even though they've both taken their respective lumps lately. Then it'll be as stacked as it's been since they had Pulver, Penn, Uno, Thomas, etc.

Isn't Sean Sherk like 170lbs???? The dude is going to lose a lot of muscle to drop to 155lbs.

    *** EDIT ***

    wrote in present tense :P

Ok, so Sherk is 155lbs now. He used to be 170lbs or something like that, and this dude was extremelly muscular. I could understand dropping 15lbs of bodyfat, but muscle? I wonder if that's going to affect his performance, strenght-wise.

I've been hearing Penn might drop back down, if he does, I'd take his chances over Sherk. I really don't see anyone else competing with those two, so if Penn doesn't then it's Sherk for sure.

15 pounds on his frame is not a lot. Hughes cuts from 190 to 170. And Franklin walks around at 205ish

Sherk has said 155 is no problem.

Sherk at 155lbs would be very strong. I could see him slamming people like Matt Hughes does.

I haven't seen Penn fight, but I have heard that he beat Hughes once, probably a long time ago.

I even bet Joe Riggs would try it if he could lose that much weight only to be tapped yet again. He can't win at any weight class.

That guy who won TUF 2 at welterweight, he would be a beast at 155 pounds. He's short and could still be stacked at that weight.

Man, this bizness of cutting always throws me off. So basically Sherk is cutting to 155, not that he dropped his everyday weight to 155. Did I get that right?

Yes. all the top fighters are a good 10-15 pounds heavier in real life.

I think Franklin might even cut down from 210.

    Two years ago.

If Penn drops down to 155 again no one at that weight can beat him. Hell, if he actually tried no one could beat him at 170.
