"Sensei" and titles such as that are confered by students to a teacher. They cannot be claimed by the teacher, nor should he expect those who are not his students to confer them either.

Such who violate this rule will be required to use wasabi as an eye ointment.

    I agree.

In Japan the term Sensei is fine. But when used in USA it becomes silly unless one or both parties are Japanese. When instructors use the term to describe themselves, like "I am Sensei Pl4ZM4" or it is used on websites/tests next to a westerner's name then it becomes doubly silly. This missuse MUST be curtailed. same goes for Shifu, Master etc etc.

You are a hakama appologisor. Next you'll be saying excotic weapons and kata are good.

we need to establish rules on:
    - Excotic weapons other than admitted LARPing
    - Kata et al
    - Sparring and comp, particularly sissy point-stop etc

Sifu and Sensei don't piss me off too much.

    What DOES piss me off:

"Shrfu" - WTF?! What a load of ****.

    "Soke" - Die.

    "Sijo" - More death.

Exotic Weapons are fun, that about it.
Kata ( 2 person not dancing) is the traditional way (japanese) are teachinhg movements and techniques. Comined with sparring is a useful way to train
Point sparring is gayer then gay sex.

First of all, people in Japan don't refer to themselves as Shihan, Sensei, Soke or any of that **** (if they are normal). They will give you their name and and it is customary to refer to the elderly man that is teaching as Sensei because it is his station. Its like your boss calling himself boss, its creepy and shows some kind of social misallignment.

Shihan, is the stupidest term in the world. It is not supposed to be used by anyone toward the person in anything but the most formal martial arts related situation. Sensei would be appropriate for anyone that trains in the same dojo as the shihan ranked person.

Soke is dumb, just don't use it. If it is your grandmaster, just call him sensei if you are in an appropriately Japanese framed martial art.

What kills me is that a martial art with no Japanese practicioners and/or no affiliation with Japan that utilizes Japanese terminology. Like half of the made up ryu of JJ in the US.

That being said, if someone doesn't refer to the instructor in the Dojo I go to in Japan as Sensei, I would feel obligated to explode their spine out of their ass with a throw during training.

    Silly training clothes

Quick question - ignoring opinions on personal style choice, is it permissible to train in silly clothes if you - in fact - wear them as your usual clothing? I tried to find good pictures of a dhoti to show what I mean (I REALLY tried...never google image search the word dhoti...seriously, it's scary) and these are the BEST I could find. The pic of Nrishingha (the lion-guy) is from my CPU actually, but I added the other to show (sort of) the back. So since I wear this, shouldn't I learn how to fight in it?

It is so very sad that these were the best pics I could find, while the first is accurate, if stylized, the back pic is just so....so horribly twiated and wrong...
