Oh yeah, saying that Hakamas for Kendo is stupid is like saying shoulder pads for football is stupid. Yes, they look silly, but it has its functions.

Eh? Function would be saying Kendo armour is like American Football armour (though why it's necessary to suit up like that just to play rugby is beyond me).

The hakama is more like those mascot costumes, amusing, yes. Function, no.

    . . . and another thing!

Anyone who refers to himself as "a Warrior" will be stripped naked, and chained to the door of a refigerator filled with beer located at the exit of Paris Island at the end of Marine basic training.

What function does the hakama serve? I will say that in Aikido it is a purely traditional item. How is it functional in Kendo? The original samurai had a use for them, but that usage doesn't apply to a dojo.

Bloody good suggestion! I can't edit the original post, but Rule 8 should read something like:

    8. Standardisation of rank titles. All silly rank titles such as but not restricted to Sensei, Sifu, Shifu, D'shifu, Guru, Master, Dr/Proffessor (in an MA context), Warrior, grandmaster, Master of Enlightment* etc etc are to be phased out. It will be a crime to use present yourself, either in writing or verbally, as "Master/Sensei/Guru" etc. Instead instructors are allowed to put an "I" in brackets after their name to indicate rank. Fight records in full contact sport contest are allowed to be referenced as credentials but must be accurate and complete.

What should the rules be on going to your local point-stop sparring contest and becoming a "World Champion" etc? And should competitions be restricted to fiull-contact rule-sets - kata comps are just silly whichever way you look at them.

Check! no other langauges. Can the Japanese still use the term sensei? If not, you need to go the japan and tell them.

Why, given your choice of screen name, does it not surprise me that you are a supporter of martial silliness?

The Japanese can use the term Sensei but if we hear you using it we shall force you to eat wasabi until your nostrils bleed and then make you write using your own blood "I am not Japanese, I just pretend". And if you persist with your ninja LARPing we will make you ride a bicycle wearing hakama.
