Does your martial art contain any spirituality?

I'd personally consider that a code of conduct or ethics.

not being a dick covers many things, like not destroying the newbies in their first sparring session.

If you do an activity where you have to cooperate with other human beings, there MUST be a certain level of respect, and an understanding of what's acceptable behavior. This has nothing to do with spirituality, or a martial "code" like bushido (which I was pretty sure just came down to "obey your master"), it's just about being a reasonable human being or getting your ass kicked out of the school for being a jackass. There've never been any spoken rules at any school I've gone to, it's just expected that people not be assholes, and generally that's how things go.

my club doesn't really go in for all the traditional stuff.

No, there is not a "spiritual" element to MA. There is a "mental" aspect, don't confuse the two.

Touche :) That leaves a lot to the imagination but it also covers a lot of ground. And what a perfect code that is, don't be an asshole.

Good point, I was looking for those words. Makes sence that the whole spiritual thing is when someone tries to impart some metaphysical aspect to their martial arts.

Interesting way of wording it. Whats the difference between mental and spiritual?
