Yes, the police are on a salary.
So, because of that, it is not your problem, right? You don't think that it is a citizen's responsibility to aid the police in apprehending thieves and other criminals?
I know that under Canadian and British law, failure to assist police when asked to do so, is a criminal offence.
But she was not, right?
SLJ, it is this type of appathetic attitude that makes things worse. If you are in a store, and you witness a shoplifting and you don't do anything about it, you are just as guilty as he....because by doing nothing, you are assisting the perpetrator in his crimes.
And the Australian bar chips story has absolutely no bearing on this. It isn't even the same scenario.

Furthermore, SLJ, you're from the UK, right?
You should understand this even more, because your police officers don't even get issued firearms, so they're just as much at risk as any other citizen. So what if they're paid to do this. The police are only being paid to do a duty full time, that is incumbent on every citizen for the community welfare and existence.

But if you do nothing to try to deter this thief in the first place, and you let him escape, then it is aiding and abetting a criminal offence.

You know, a couple of times I've helped to catch shoplifters, and I ended up just feeling a little bad about it.
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - for ever."Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog -

SLJ, I understand your inhibitions about getting actively involved. I do.
But if the common man doesn't get up and make a stand against the crime and corruption in society, then they win. Don't you understand?

I don't see it that way, I see it as not taking on someone who maybe armed, over something very stupid.
And due to amazinly sensible British "laws" I can't carry anything to defend myself with.
