I'm thinking it's something more along the lines of the dude already having a fracture and this was the shin kick that broke the camel's shin.

That's what I'm thinking. I'd like to know the frequency of this type of... episode. What's narly to think about is that two bones were fractured; the tibia and the fibula, in order for his leg to completely cave. gross.

agreed, I highly doubt it had anything to do with the flexation of the foot. I thought you were supposed to point your toes?? Am I wrong about this? I kinda point my toes but not with any strain, I just do it to get my toes out of the way.

I am thinking the guy had some exsisting fracture or it was just a freaky angle that he hit with his bone - it can happen to anyone no matter how well conditioned.

I agree ... it was either that or undiagnosed bone cancer.

As other posters have pointed out, this fighter had broken his leg prior to this bout(I donīt know if it was in training or a non-kickboxing related injury), and simply hadnīt taken enough time off to heal and re-broke his leg.

It is possible for osteoporosis to be asymptomatic. However, the probability it would be in an otherwise healthy young male is next to zero. It would have presented with significant endocrine problems which could not be ignored.

He may not have known it was a fracture. Assuming any pain at all, stress fractures can be easily chalked up to shin-splints or other forms of overuse.

pointing your toes is bad because your foot is fragile and can be targeted if the person sees what you're doing.
