Woa that was awesome. Watching him just walk around all those throws was something else.
Absolutely beautiful. That is one of the best hours I've ever spent looking at a screen.
Great video, but is the Judo being taught there the same Judo being taught today?
You bring up a good point. I think there are a few orgiinizations that are still teaching judo that way (ie Carl Gies and some offshoots of Mel Bruno) but most are just teaching their students one of two throws and leaving it at that and groundwork consists of turtling up. But that is the fault of the AAU, not the Kodokan.
But I must humbly say after watching this vid I muist retract my previous BS about some of the Judos throws being useless.:binkybaby
Thanks for posting these links.
That footage was beautiful. Many parallels in some of those techniques to Aikido techniques, and for obvious reasons (left as exercise for the reader). Unfortunately I have not practiced Judo, are many of these techniques no longer practiced?

Why can't judo be more like that in competitions? No really. He's using his weight for compliance. It's perfect economic movement.
Here is a modern Jodo vid that I posted a while back (much shorter than the Mifune video).
It is a cool video but the mastery Mifune has is obvious (even more so) when the two videos are compared.
Nice sfe, but yeah, there's just no comparison. They saw the movie. Mifune wrote the book.
Mifune's uke looks compliant...
