Just keep in mind that there are fakes out there--real pattern-weld is actually two different types of steel, like a high-nickel and a low-nickel. When you etch the steel with acid, the two types etch differently and one comes out darker, which is what makes the pattern show.
Some of the cheapie companies just cut, engrave, or etch random swirly patterns into finished knives to imitate the pattern welding. It would be obvious if you held one in your hand most of the time; the expense of pattern welding is the time and work it takes, so if you took the time and effort to fake it really well there'd be nothing to gain.
Not saying the kerambit offered for sale here isn't "real" pattern weld, just that everyone should always keep their eyes open.
