Most college have a "no weapon" rules period. I know my old school tried to apply that to bokken (wooden swords).
After 4 years in College I found this.
1. RAs are not allowed to go through your stuff, so if it isn't in plain sight, they can't look for it.
2. Cops only search rooms when drugs are involved. Hence don't give them a reason to search your room.
Following that and you won't have issue with campus weapons laws. I never did, nor did any of my friends. -

If they forbid pocket knives you are going to be in a world of hurt with an ASP-alike. These are illegal in many places except for law enforcement. And they are almost guaranteed to fail the all-important Police Attitude Test. You've got a better chance getting away with a folder as long as it's not the Mark VII Death's Head MilSpecOpMoFo Tiny Pecker Eviscerator.
Carry a four or six C-Cell Maglite. It will bring the ones that don't usually come and has the advantage of being a legitimate flashlight. -

I own two batons..
One which is a manual (no spring) opening one, commonly found in law enforcement. I believe it's somewhere around 48"? Thats just a guess, buy it bent when one of my friends closed it wrong or something, so I have to repair it.
(On the left; its bent so I can't show you it extended all the way)
My other has an internal spring that when a lever is pressed it releases the spring and the baton expands. It mostly resembles the Jutte.
(On the right, with spring taken out.)

I have one with out the spring. I like it this way because I dont have to worry about the spring failing. I just whip it out and then hit a hard surface to close. Def a ood thing to beat people with. Better then a stick, it has a weighted head usualy. You can thrust them if you want too, like Kage said humans arent that hard.
