    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Gi and no-gi osoto-gari by Dan Camarillo

Since I have gotten tired of hearing judoka whine about adapting their throws to no-gi, I decided to upload a video I've had sitting around for a while.

Dan Camarillo, black belt in both judo and BJJ (just like his brother Dave), put this out instructional clip a while ago, and while it was available free at OnTheMat.com and some BJJ forums, but I never saw it get much play.

If you want to save this, I recommend downloading the larger version from his website since Google shrunk this one.

This Osoto video is great. It got posted on my old class forum about a year ago, and it was probably the first throwing insructional I ever watched that made sense to me.

Camarillo explains the little details quite well (almost as well as Stephan Kesting). His method of stepping in with body forward, breaking the opponent's balance with a kick to the back of the knee, and then hopping forward is now the method I use. I'm not sure if he's unique in how he does his Osoto (I'm guessing probably not), but he's definitely the first guy to get it through my thick skull.

Niggling point: AFAIK Dave gave Dan his BJJ blackbelt sometime last year.

Very helpful video. We do osoto-gari without a gi at the gym I go to, but it's not something I've worked on a lot so far.
I definitely picked up a few pointers here, especially that reaching motion he does with his right hand over his opponent's back. I'll see if I can try it out next class.

Man I like that guy's style, he comes right out with the ancient secrets. I saw about three little things wrong with my throw from watching that.
