Aikido is totally capable of producing people who can use what they know in competition. I meant the people who come online who get on my nerves. The internet seems to attract all the nuts in Aikido. Most of the people I met in real life don't get on my nerves.

    JKDChick FTW.

I have to agree, because a lot of BJJ people are waiting to prove themselves. And sound pretty gay while doing especially if they're new at it.

    Guy #1: *Push*
Guy #2: You think I'm gay or something? Wanna Grapple?
    Guy#1: I was just kidding.
Guy#2: C'mon, get in my guard.

(Now, I'm not dissing BJJ, because I love rolling, but, I've actually had this convo before. So, yeah.)

I agree wholeheartedly, but you can find that with alomst all martial arts systems. as a matter of fact, you are probably going to find that in more creeps and martial arts than in most places, as it is completely unregulated

There are a few people I "hate" in my style, mostly people in leadership positions. There are many, many, many, people in my style that need to be slapped around. But then again I do ATA TKD, so I'm sure most people here want to slap me around.

    Amen, brother!

I don't hang out in martial arts circles because of the egos. Belt this. Grandmaster that. Champion da udda. One of the things I like most about my Silat teacher is that he's really good but completely unpretentious. "If your ****'s weak." he says "your ****'s weak. Either you can fight or you can't."

I'm afraid regulation wouldn't help. People are in martial arts for many reasons. One of them is the feeling of power that comes from being able to fight (or thinking you can) or worse, standing in front of the class and lording it over people who call you "Master".

Life is too short for that crap.

The Bissett Combat Jiu Jitsu club in Winnipeg (www.combatjiujitsu.com) really is a good club. Really. It's just getting harder to defend lately, because there are so many people who play up the self defense applications to god-like proportions.

I met a guy today who tried out a free class, and apparently one of the instructors told him "anyone can roll with someone and put them in an armbar. We make sure the guy is incapable of fighting back before he hits the ground." Apparently he also played up the "Our techniques are too deadly for the octagon." angle, and turned this guy off of our club for good.

When I kind of fell out of regular training there, a lot of the newer people were buying the "we're too dangerous" crap, and a couple of the instructors were just hamming it up.
