    Kali history books

I've gotten started on Kali training recently and I was wondering if anyone knows of any good books on the history of Filipino martial arts?

Martial arts history is a difficult thing. Mark Wiley's writings are an ok place to start. However, everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt. There are a few histories that are supposed to be pretty good, but haven't been translated from tagolog (sp).

Part of the problem is that Nationalism gets quickly wrapped up around the history.

I figured any pure martial arts history would be like that, so I'm looking for more general Filipino history books that at least make good mention of kali.

"The Filipino Martial Arts" by Dan Inosanto had some Kali history in it.Unfortunately that book is out of print & the only used ones I could find at Amazon.com start at $101.
Glad I bought mine 20 years ago.

Like I said, its a tough search. Inasanto's book is ok. His history (and Wiley's for that matter) can be pretty wonkey. Again, if you're looking for academic history vs. folk history, good luck. There isn't a lot out there. If I come across some, I'll post it.

    Roger, I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Masters of the Blade is pretty decent, although more a biographical work on various grandmasters of the FMA
