I guess I should've put more context up with the post. The guy doing the talking had been stressing that size doesn't make a whole lot of difference when applying Judo techniques (obviously it's going to be harder to throw someone bigger and stronger than you, but for the most part the techniques are designed to be applicable to almost anyone). So he was just stating that it's possible for women to throw men who are larger than them should the opportunity arise. This wasn't supposed to be a simulation of a self-defense scenario, just a display showing that it works.

There's a kid in my class that just broke 4' a few months ago, he's 13 but he's been taking it since he was 8. He had to fight this guy in our class that's 6' 5", it was like watching me fight a spider monkey, latching onto his back and going wild with a whole lot of screaming, then when he jumped off the tall guy, he actually managed to get him with a back throw.
I dunno how he did it when he went up to the guys hip, but he swept his foot back and slammed him into the ground, it was pretty awesome. Score one for the little dudes. -

Depending on where you are in Queens, there are a lot of places to train. In Flushing it seems like every 4 blocks there's a school. Though I can't personally reccomend anyplace, some quick Google-fu turns up a lot. You might also want to specify what you're looking for style wise for some more specific help. Or just check for yourself http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&lr=...local&ct=title

Thanks, but she's really looking for a straight up Judo place. She lives in Ozone Park so Flushing is actually more of a hassle to get to than Manhattan. And she's only got a month off before she's got to be back at school to start her nursing classes so she's looking for somewhere she could pay a reasonable fee for lots of training.

Look folks!
This just the reality of the situation most everyone on these boards can be divided into one of two types, armchair brawlers or serious actively training fighters. There are a few who are in between, but it seems to me a lot of folks are critical. Well, he "let" her throw him. SHE HAS TO LEARN SOMEHOW. And every training session cannot be a b*lls out brawl. Yes, as she trains she needs to move onto attacks with more resistance, but you have to crawl before you walk! I think she showed good form and kudos to her for learning how to defend herself.

That's no excuse. They have to learn the names at some point, right? It's like you going to Japan, and the locals not being able to pronounce your name, so in frustration you exclaim, "Just call me Kenji!" That is assuming your name isn't actually Kenji.
