How does one INVENT a new style of M.A.?
Can it be done... after so many are already out there.

A student of my old teacher did this, after he left my teacher )to take over a dojo within the sytem of my teachers style), he left our org. about 2 years later, due to $$$. (WHATS NEW)

The student then went out on his own to study a few different systems {as well as more Kenpo} and then he mix them together as a system. Is this the way... the time he has been working on this was about 7 year after he left his home dojo he was a 3rd dan in 1999. How does one do it the right way ........is his it.

    Thanks for ypur time!

Creating a style requires a desire to make money coupled with a lack of scruples. A marketing degree helps. A cult of personality would also be a boon to a would-be Grandmaster of MyOwnDo. Then, all you need is the great art of misdirection, a location away from any real schools, and perhaps connections to the world wide web of guys who specialize in legitimizing garbage.

Of course, there is a good way of starting your own style, as well. If you are qualified to teach several different styles, or you have friends who are qualified to teach different styles, you could integrate them into a single, multi-faceted style. Groups such as these tend to adopt organization names rather than style names. As long as they are legit, and teaching correctly, this is a good way to start one's own "style." The second you call yourself a Grandmaster, though, you've fallen into the first category.

    new or not

The man who has done this claims no rank to his {method}.
He has his student call him sensei, just as he has done for the past 12 years .
He has said that he didn't want to keep ripping off the other arts, now that he had started to teach them in the classes. Should he have just kept calling it kenpo?
I dont think he wants the title G.M. but just the art to be know as something different, something more than just kenpo.

He is a 4th dan kenpo for 3 years now. Other b.b. ranks I dont know about.
(FMA), SILAT, and KOBUDO plus more KENPO/KEMPO is what was mixed from yhe year 2000.

Personally I fail to see the benefit of "creating" your own style. If you are qualified to teach multiple reputable styles wouldn't you prefer to continue to associate with these reputable styles rather than have to create a new style and build up its reputation?

IMO people who create styles are trying to make something reputable or at least "appealing", to the average joe. Which is not already "reputable" or "appealing".

    My 2 cents...

How do you invent a style?

It's inevitable. If you stick at this game long enough and learn enough you will start doing things the way that works best for you. If you add what you come up with or learn other places your stuff will be recognizably your own. It will be your own style. Whether it's any good or not and what name, if any, you choose to give it is another matter.

Let's take an example that a few people have heard of, Gracie Ju Jitsu. Back in the early days there was a lot of Judo, local wrestling and other things in it. Over decades it started looking more like it does today. At some point it was enough its own thing that it wouldn't be accurate to call it Judo/Wrestling/Whatever. It had become Ju Jutsu the way the Gracie family does it.

One doesn't. He merely compiles plagiarized tactics, techniques and strategies and comes up with a goofy name.

This is not saying that existing styles cannot be improved upon.

But that's exactly how all the existing styles started.
