The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

I'm pretty sure they weren't allowing guys to tape up boxer style like today.
I'm pretty sure they were. First dude Royce fought came out with a single boxing glove. Lots of dudes taped up their hands and wrists.

I was under the impression there was a no-open-palm strikes rule in UFC because they don't want fingers in the eyes?
I think it was two ninjas taped together, to make one GIANT NINJA!!!!

Nick Diaz bitch-slapped Robbie Lawler in their recent UFC encounter.

Hammer fists and palm heel strikes are legal as far as I know, splaying your fingers out and thrusting them towards someone´s face will probably get you a stern warning from the ref, especally considering the recent outbreak of eye pokes in the UFC....

Pancrase only allows closed fist strikes to the body. If your going to the face it has to be open fisted.:new_blueg
Bas Rutten is the best!!! :new_blueg

These are the "old Pancrase" rules. Pancrase went for full MMA rules, gloves and all somewhere circa 2000 as far as I know. The only thing that really seperates them anymore is that they still wear the funky leglock-tastic boots.

Okay, please read my post as I'm sure I addressed it in there but here's a recap:

1.) The first guy to wear gloves regularly in the Octagon was David Abbot and he had to seek approval to do so. The reason you ask? David punches, and didn't want his hand to break in the early fights.

2.) The reason Art Jimmerson wore a glove was that he was hoping to get out of fighting when he realized what the event was. Not to take anything away from Royce (as this is his first listed pro fight in NA) but this guy didn't want any part of this game from the get go and the boxing glove was a gimmick.

Also, the UFC still allows hammer fists and palm strikes.
