    Sanshou Throws (Video)

I came across this video demonstrating 'basic Sanshou throws' on Youtube.

There are some interesting throws and trips coming out of kick catches here that I don't recall seeing before. Are any of these techniques unique, or can most of be found elsewhere (Judo, BJJ, etc)?

That is a pretty cool video. I just found this clip which just happened to have a lot of those same throws in it, but in a san shou match, which is pretty cool to watch.

Seen them all in Yoseikan which is a japanese based art so they probably exist in every art that allows kicks and grappling....

I saw a lot of Judo-type throws without the Judo science. Meaning the Kuzushi was non-existant. I think they try to make up for this with strikes but I think it falls short of Judo in terms of technique.

The only one I had REAL problems with was the leg on the shoulder body drop. That is just asking for someone to take your back.

Do you really need Kuzushi when your throws are used as counters against committed strikes? Wouldn't that achieve the same effect as Kuzushi? Heck, wouldn't that be part of Kuzushi?

I think so. Most people feel that you shouldn't let your opponent dictate the nature of the exchange, but that's more of a conceptual thing; any time a person is off-balance, they're offset -- regardless of who created that situation.

There was a little kuzushi in some of the throws (particularly the Kubi nage toward the end of the clip) but the majority of the throws lacked amplitude because of the (from a Judo view) imprecise application. The throws were dependent upon the gaps in the striking (not that it is bad).

Very nice video, I almost think that CMA aren't full of sissy boxing d and d freaks............. almost.

That video does make up for a lot of the **** that Peng and other CMA retards post sometimes.
