    Hell yeah! Hell no!
Who fucking cares if Christianity is a Pagan religion, or if Luther was just a rebellious Catholic teenager? For that matter, why people believe in Creationism, or whether or not they should, isn't the issue either.

Jesus Christ, you people can't focus for ****.

Some Muslims claim Chrisitianity is Polytheistic 'cos of the Holy Trinity, Saints and the Marian cult. (If you're Catholic.)

But Islam has its own (unannounced) Holy Trinity too: God, the Prophet and the Koran. Don't believe me? Look at the recent cartoon fiasco or the lynching of innocent men in Pakistan for 'burning the Holy Qu'aran'. It also has a hierarchy of angels (which operates like a pantheon of second division gods in most cases) and the crescent was originally a Pagan symbol too. Pot, kettle, black.

See what I mean? That entire post was meaningless. Oh, Islam has a crescent symbol? Holy ****! Wait, it has a Holy Trinity that you made up? **** me!

    None of that is relevant.

    Neither.

Consubstantiation is a misnomer and is not true Lutheran theology.

Both Transubstantiation and Consubstantiation were attempts to use Aristotelian philosophy to explain how it is that Christs body was truly present.

Luther rejected any such attempts as unBiblical, using man's reason to explain a miracle of God. Luther, rather, accepted the mystery of the event, only going as far as affirming the Christ body and blood was truly present, in, with, and under, the bread and wine.

Later Lutherans, in an attempt to have a concept to compare with Catholicism, came up with consubstantiation, once again using Form and Substance to explain the mystery.

I can only imagine Luther rolling in his grave at their attempts.

I'm talking "always" in the the context of modern times. No religion as it exists today is the same as it existed 500, or 1 thousand years ago. The Catholic church that defends evolution today is not the same church that wanted to wack Galileo into submission and forced him to say everything orbited around the Earth ... not to mention that my ancestors weren't Catholic; they were "Pagans", worshippers of Quetzalcoatl and a whole bunch of cool-looking fanged Gods, and they only had two choices during the Conquista: cross or sword.

Mea culpa, though. I should have been more clear in the context I was referring to.

I figured that was the case (you're no dummy), but it was way to glaring to not poke at.

I can dig it, El, but the cynic in me tends to feel that the Church would still be up to alot of its old tricks if it still had the same international political and economic clout.

Glad to hear they may lighten up on condoms though, and I have alot of respect for the work of Liberation Theologists in S America.

I've seen a million debates on Creationism turn into religious pissing contests, which has nothing to do with the debate. At least discussions about the Iraq war generally stay on topic, even if they're equally stupid.
