"The Style of kickboxing taught here at Miletich Martial Arts is Muay-Thai. Muay-Thai kickboxing is considered the most devastating of the striking arts and was perfected in times of war between the countries of Laos and Thailand. These classes will teach a combination of boxing skills, kicks, elbows, and knee strikes. The majority of our students taking this class are men and women that simply do it to get in great shape and learn self-defense. You will not be hit in this class and our students have about as much chance of getting hurt as playing a game of tennis or basketball."

I think that proves once and for all that the watering down of martial arts is not a TMA problem exclusively. Note who's Gym the above quote is from! Almost all popular martial arts were elite schools of their day that have degenerated over time. I could go take Miletich's cardio kickboxing class for 10 years, claim I trained in the same school as various MMA champions for a decade, and pass on my cardio kickboxing as real martial arts to others, and get exactly the same problem that has happened to "TMA" (and which has NOT happened to some TMA like Judo.)

I liked Freakshow's analogy, except that instead of claiming that the hammer works, the TMA students would be claiming that they are still using a screwdriver even though it is now a hammer.

DerAuslander108 - are you one of those pain-in-the-ass monks that hang around in streets asking for donations?

Fat people disgust me in every way imaginable. I was at Freindly's with my girl tonight and saw a bunch of fat fuckers. I felt sorry for the pavement they were killing and the people who had to see them. .

Rather than a hammer, I would say that over time, due to lack of screwing, the Phillips Screwdriver blunted and became a Flathead.

Now, you can still attempt to screw in a Phillips screw with a flathead.

It may work. Not well, but it may.

Of course, it's just as likely, or even more likely that it won't.

And even if it does work, you'd still be better off with a Phillips.

No, I'm one of those painfully cool monks who hangs out in pubs bringing enlightenment to the ladies and tossing drunken frat boys.

    ER,

I'm really touched and flattered by the way you feel about me. I'm sorry that I just don't share the same feelings for you.

I just can't bring myself to date a Watermelon boy. I'm sorry.

I'm sure you'll find someone someday who makes you very happy.

    Yours,

    Der
