    Falling Step

    I'm having a problem. I try to use the falling step effectively, but i can't stop overcommitting to and attack. Granted it is for power, is there any way I can speed it up.

    Falling Step problems

    I'm having a problem. I try to use the falling step effectively, but i can't stop overcommitting to an attack. Granted it is meant for power, is there any way I can speed it up?

    you're probably stepping too deeply and/or leaning into it as you do it. Try to stay upright and only step slightly.

    right.

    you have to stay vertically compressed and centered. also it is crucial that you make contact with the target and you complete the fall step, but before the momentum is completely exhausted. doing so will set up a compress/expansion dynamic that will significantly increase your power.

    being that is it compressive in nature, the body must be used as conduit. in one motion, and without excessive tension. the intrinsic force of the body, i.e. momentum, becomes 'trapped' between the ground and the opponent and the force is transferred.

    you can 'lock' the body momentarily on impact, the added structural rigidity can compensate for a lack fo structural compression alignment.

    falling step is a momentum based maneouver.

    other steps are more stability based, so they rely on leverage.

    Look, OP, you're thinking too hard. When you hit, drop your center of gravity a little less then an inch.

    If your footwork and hip action are good, you'll get an increase in power.

    You heard the name "falling step" and you start to think it's got to be some sort of really special step, it's more like an adjustment to where your bodyweight rides during the punch. If you're overdoing it, it's probably because you bob up before you drop.

    a major point is to get your stepping foot at just the right distance you dont have to overextend to hit.
