Yea, it's wrong to think that scientists should do science, eh?

I agree that most people aren't qualified to conduct rigorous experiment, but new media like the internet should be used to expand science.
The internet does expand scientific knowledge to the general public. However, some asshole on a webforum's idea of a "scientific" experiment seems to be this: "Try this meditation, you'll feel better."

I have fought entire armies with nothing but a spoon, this was back before WWII. I have fought side by side with Captain America. I've sparred Spiderman and the Green Goblin at the same time. I've fought the Hulk and survived, but didn't win. I've donned a Tick costume and fought ninjas in "The City". I've partied with the TMN Turtles. I've carved out peoples tongues with paperclips. I've thrown pebbles to topple giants.

A familiar theme amongst many non-scientists: they criticise science for being elite specialist scholarship, but they want the prestige associated with this very scholarship. While scientific research was often developed outside of universities (e.g. supported by academies, courts and associations when universities were conservative), it is clear that contemporary science is a very specific academic enterprise. If I publish an article that's reasonable, clear, compelling and well-researched, even if it includes a discussion of science, I don't call it 'science'.

Science is a big political clusterfuck where a computer generated nonsense paper can get accepted through peer review.
