"Tony Cecchine is the world's foremost practicing authority on Catch As Catch Can Wrestling (Catch Wrestling). He has recently been recognized as the leading exponent of Catch Wrestling by the World Head of Family Sokeship Council, an organization that reviews and votes on the absolute greatest martial artists of different styles."

    Thanks for the info guys.
I may have to give it a try.

If people are interested, I recommend trying to get your hands on Lou Thesz's autobiography. Thesz was one of the last authentic hookers (American submission expert), and was around at the birth of professional wrestling. He became the most sucessful professional wrestler of all time (one title reign lasted 8 years!). This was mainly because he was so dangerous that the only way he would lose a fixed match was if someone asked him REALLY nicely. Nobody could actually make him. :)

maybe we should discuss the merits of striking vs. grappling first

Pizdoff - Go stand in the corner.

"What dos Tony Cecchine and Matt Fury have to say about each other"

I had a look at that, and as far as I can see they both totally ignore each other.

I'm not gonna pretend I'm all-knowing on the subject.... but from some of the things I've read... GOOD catch wrestling can make BJJ look like child's play.

Yeah.. you gotta take everything with a grain of salt.

Personally I'm of the opinion that there's only so much knowledge out there to be gained, and there's no one style that has it right. I mean, you learn submissions or strikes or kicks or whatever.... combine it with strategy... and the rest is up to you.

The problems with the statements of Catch exponents are:

    1. Outlandish: Claiming to make all practitioners of a proven art into bitches generally makes me skeptical from the outset. Especially with such little proof.

    2. Too few practitioners: The only real practitioners I know of are Tony Cecchine's students, and to an extent, Japanese Pro-wrestlers(through Karl Gotch).

Japanese pro-wrestlers have been schooled by BJJers and vice versa. I don't know of any stories of Cecchine's students competing.

Unless I was able to roll with a catch-as-catch-can wrestler, a creature I consider as rare if not legendary as the 'light roll.' I wouldn't be able to give an opinion. And even then, it would only be of one player, not the style itself. All of the stuff I've seen from the style looks similar to BJJ.

This is not to say that Catch is Bullshido. On the contrary, many grappling arts have similar, if not the exact same submissions, given that there is only a limited number of ways that joints can move or be locked effectively. Catch is a dying art form that has recently been revived to an extent with the use of dubious marketing techniques.
