I've been having a lot of success with this sweep lately. I remember learning it about a year and a half ago, but I could never make it work. Then I found an old JJ Machado instructional where he explains it, and all of a sudden it just clicked for me. It's awesome, especially for guys like me who have short legs and can get those hooks in easily.
I pointed at him [the panhandler], bringing my rear hand up in a subtle approximation of the double Wu Sau guard that is the default hand position in Wing Chun Kung Fu.
"Step away," I hissed.

I get this sweep occasionally, but it's not my go-to sweep.
do any of you guys have trouble hooking the leg on bigger guys? When I do this it's more of a positional thing and I can either slide out the back door or wrap his legs up and turn him over to where he's kinda sitting down like he just got caught in a double leg.
Also, we've been taught that when a guy starts hooking that leg when you push the knee up, to sprawl the hooked leg down (this blocks the hip and keeps them from grabbing gard back) and start working the brabo choke or switch your hips and start working the pass. Does this happen to anyone else?
