I’ve decided to seek out the train wreck that is aikido, if for no other reason then to understand where most of the experience people here are coming from. My goal is to engage in some cross style sparring with an aikido stylist. I do not intend to try to change any minds and I will not mention bullshido. To this end I intend to send a respectful email stating that I am thinking of cross training in aikido, I was wondering if anyone here had any advice in regards to the content of the email.

I woudl say the only people willing to spar you are those who have cross trained and that their sparring would be 90% in what they cross trained in and 10% Aikido.

I think you've got a great idea. I think the success of your endeavor is going to depend greatly on who you send the emails to and who you have in your area to push you and show you what you want to see.

I think that if you express yourself the way you did in your OP that you should have no problems in finding someone. Good luck!

Agreed. and if you could find someone who trains in only aikido to spar you, I bet you would find very little 'akki' type techniques, instead he would tell you that those are priniciples and punching, clinching, and knees are very much aikido.

If you haven't found a Tomiki school then you need to look for one. Because everyone else is going to laugh at you with a juggling pot belly.
