However, Hydro is efficient. So much so, that Californians were stealing our surplus. You can look it up if you want, but i'm too busy (lazy) to do it for you.

Our local utility company is called: B.C. Hydro.
You can't just dam any river, and the power needs of the world at large can't really be met with the ones you can dam, and even if you could you'd need a lot of fucking wire to send it everywhere.

On top of that, dams flood huge amounts of land, so the immediate impact is actually larger than a nuclear reactor anyway.

Would a nuclear powered handgun be doable?
Where would you fit the reactor? The water? The steam turbine? The computers required to regulate the reactor? The shielding required to protect yourself? And why the hell does your handgun need to produce electricity anyway?

this is from an aus gov website so they really try to pretty up the story, but this bit is very telling:

the scheme has had some direct impacts on the environment.

When dams were built, some eco-systems that were habitats for plants and animals were flooded.

Diverting and storing water for the scheme has changed the nature of the Snowy River and other rivers in the region. In some places, the Snowy River carries only one per cent of the water that it used to before the scheme was built.

the snowy river hydroelectric dams have completely fucked its ecosystem.

I'm thinking it would use mag-lev type stuff like a rail gun. But then it's no longer a pistol, but the size of a fucking room, anyway.

People often tell me that I fail to see the gravity of the situation.

When I first start work were I do...I came in and noticed a sign that said, "Engaving Department." I commented that it probably makes the Engraving Department look like idiots. They laughed and said that they never noticed that before and that it was up for YEARS. *rolls eyes*
