Chain punching has its place, but it seems that most don't know where that is. I've tried using it a few times in my sparring lately. It seems useful at the point you have someone moving backwards and want to keep them going that way until you can bridge the distance or get yourself away from the fight entirely (or at least make an attempt to do so).

Wouldn't windmilling your arms insanely and screaming like a little girl do the same thing?

Seriously, I think that chain punching to the face for example could serve a purpose as a monentary distraction before you shoot in for some sort of single or double leg take down.

But Chunners don't seem practice that becaue they don't believe in grappling.

I believe this was due to him projecting his frustrations because he was always picked last for the intramural soccer teams.

At the very least that could momentarily confuse your opponent. I'll have to give that a shot. Whatever works, right? :)

That's really not that different from how I look at chain punching. Keep in mind that one of our goals is to get a person moving backwards as that limits what they can do to you. Really just keeping them off-balance. I'm sure you'd agree that's a valid tactic, right? Anyway, I think chain punching could be used to help with that. Say you get the person momentarily off balance, but you are still fighting at a longer range, you could use chain punches as you bridge the distance to either continue striking or go for a takedown. That's how I'm attempting to use it anyway. As I'm closing distance I want to keep some punches going, if at the very least to give my opponent something to deal with. Course, Just shooting in might be equally as effective. I dunno.

Could chain punching be a fight ender? Well, sure. I guess if you get lucky and land a really solid punch, but most of the chain punching I see is done pretty bad. A lot of chain punching I see is done with the person wind-milling their arms as they remain stationary. In reality you should be extended each arm and moving forward using your movement to create power. If done correctly, I could see chain punching being effective for certain things, but that doesn't mean something else couldn't work just as effectively. Whatever works for you best is what I say you go with.

    1. its just a demo
    2. its not designed to be a sport with rules. sometimes that happens in a real fight, however unfortunate that may be.

There's a story that I heard from Dan Severn once at a seminar. It goes something like this.

When Dan was 17 he attended a wrestling tournament in Turkey. He got matched up with a 39 year old army vet wrestler who when the bout began the older guy pulled his hair, headbutted him and when it went to the ground bit Dan in the forearm. To which an angry Dan smashed down his fromarm in the guys face and broke his nose and teeth to which Dan was disqualified even though he had bite marks and teeth in his arm.

If I am in top mount position and you reach up to gouge my eyes like the guy in the video did, I will move my head back, grab your arm possibly break your fingers for being a dick and armbar the poop out of you.

Biting and gouging eye's are no subsitiute for skill and ability and are more likely to result in pissing someone off so that they damage you more than being effective self defense techniques.

Thats odd, wing chun's elbows are alot like Muay Thai ones.

Are they the same elbow from the clinch? ( even though that does not look like the clinch. )

Can't argue with that. Giving up your arm like that will result in bad things.
