    Throat chokes

Most of my BJJ experience comes from rolling with my TKD friend in his basement. So just know this comes from the perspective of a TKD crappler, but I want some answers.

When we rolled he would get annoyed whenever I did a throat choke. Like pushing my fingers into his throat from guard or doing the serial killer choke where you push their throat with your thumbs.

Are throat chokes legal in BJJ? If they are illegal is it becuase they are considered in-effective or becuase they are considred "deadly" like eye gouges and stuff?

Also I've found it's easier to do rear naked chokes on the throat instead of the sides of the neck. You don't need to sink your arm as deep and it's harder for them to tuck their chin.

And from mount I feel like the serial killer choke is the only grappling attack I can do. Or push knuckes into their throat. If I try to do an armbar i just mess up and lose the mount. I also try to do smothers but those don't always work.

And the collar chokes don't seem to work when they grab their collar.

Please find a bjj school and train there, or judo if bjj is unavailable.

    Legal. But faggy and worthless.

And you don't have BJJ experience, just like I can't claim to have TKD experience because I kicked some guy once.

I've rolled a few times with a blue belt in frederick at his house too. But mostly just with my TKD friend. I'm not a BJJ person, but I do have some very limited BJJ experience.

Do the throat chokes not work agaisnt BJJ people? They seem to work ok when I used them against TKD and wing chun.

That is because it is TKD and wing chun.

Those chokes are crap and will vary from "hurt your partner's trachea" to "armbar me please". No more trying to choke someone while in their guard. I would recommend, at this point, only choking from the back (RNC) or mount (ezikiel or cross collar choke). For your RNC, you may get some pain compliance taps from the forearm in the throat, but then that really isn't a choke, then is it? Make a V, and cutoff the blood to their head. Though you do yourself a disservice by practicing against another crappler by giving positive reinforcement to bad habits. This will, in the end, be worse for you if you ever try do do real grappling.
