    The Nintendo "Revolution" controller...

    What do U think?

I know that I have bashed the controller in the past but.... after viewing this vid a couple times I have to say that I'm intrigued.

took me a couple views to equalize the actions with the sound.... cause I'm dumb.

Gimmick. Nintendo will throw some **** out for it, but most third party developers will just make normal games. Incidently, this will mean you will need to buy stupid remote control-controllers and normal controllers. Less money for video games and porn.

Agreed. I actually kind of miss the pooper-scope. and the NES light gun, or whatever it was called. I kicked ass at Duck hunt.

However, you said gimmick. I was talking to some fat nerd at EB and he was saying that nintendo considers themselves seperate from the console market (MS/Sony) so the wacky controller isn't so much of a gimmick to try and drum up sales to be competitive, it's just another wacky innovative thing that nintendo is gambling with. like power glove.

power glove wasn't gimmicky, it was innovative, albeit stupid. my cousin had one, it never worked. looked kinda cool though, back in 1989.

Pretty much. They've got a large niche market, their books are a lot tidier than Sony/MS's, and they make a lot more profit proportionally than the Sony/MS console divisions. They pretty much have a guaranteed market for what they do based on consumer trust. I was originally furious about the Revolution controller, but I've come around in the past few months. Nintendo is doing what it always does: innovating. If the controller falls flat on its face, they'll try something new next time. If it has some success, expect to see Sony and Microsoft copying it. Besides that, Nintendo mainly makes money on its handheld systems, so it can afford to **** around a little on the console market.

Basically, with Sony and MS in the market, Nintendo knew they was going to get pushed aside in one generation or another, so they redefined their goals as a company and have come up with a very workable system. Nintendo's consoles are generally much simpler than Sony's or MS's. They don't have all the added functionality, but it makes them a lot cheaper. That's a trade-off I'm perfectly fine with.

Yeah. I buy a console to play games, not to watch DVD's, surf the web, or do my taxes.
