Have you made a choice of a new style already?
Yes, I'll be doing Judo, continuing with BJJ and hopefully work some striking in there somewhere from Boxing or Thai. I used to do Shooto, but coach started pressuring students to get thier basic boxing skills up to speed in the boxing classes before doing Shooto.

There's no choice but to confront you, to engage you, to erase you. I've gone to great lengths to expand my threshold of pain. I will use my mistakes against you. There's no other choice.

Hitting hard is not the issue, I've been hit and thrown hard in the Bujinkan more than I care to remember, the thing is people hit non-resisting, non-mobile partners. Some of the instructors even boast about how "hard" thier training is, becuase they smack people during techniques really hard, bare knuckle, in places that hurt. The thing is, the other guy has to take it, if hitting back was an option it would be a different story. A classes is the dakentaijutsu techniques of striking the attacking arm or leg, we woulld do these big lunge punches, and leave our arms out for the other guy to hit. The instructors were very accurate and hit sensitive areas such as the humourus which would make your arm go numb and tingle. It's very painful. Does it work on a real punch? We never tried, but I'd guess no. Not without Ashida Kim's bullet time skills at least. That's what they do, and that's what they are good at, hitting stationary outstreched arms.

    Thats the Guy!

Good choice on leaving. I've trained in many systems that are like the training you've talked about... Silat, Kuntao and even Kali can tend to be like this. However, I've been fortunate enough that in those same places I've trained these, they also did "live" training and taught Muay Thai, BJJ and the like. I guess the theory goes that you can learn the "deadly" but can't really spar it without serious injury, so you learn the "not so deadly" to get the live training and thus, you can make the choice to be deadly or not in a "real" fight.

Anymore, I just treat the deadly techniques as fancy demo stuff.

It's interesting I read stuff like this and it rings totally true with me, although I never went to Japan and trained at trained with Hatsumi. It looks like t3h r3al bujinkan is not in another country, it's in another time. This guy says the training used to be hard, with lots of randori but it was pussied up becuse of injuries and to make it more acceptable to the average person. The training he talks about sounds too hard, I wonder why a middleground could not have been found.

Money, Virus, it all comes down to money. Most people don't want to spar with any contact at all.
