I wonder if they are going to start a family of these type of guns. Here is a crew served weapon called the OCSW. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/ocsw.htm

this thread is like thehighroad... a year ago.
last i heard, nobody other than civilians is adopting 6.8spc, and the pentagon has almost (but not quite) washed their hands of the xm8 (which never was chambered in 6.8 *anyway.*). the hk416 has a shot in upcoming trials, though, and might get adopted. apparently, someone at hk had the bright idea that "maybe if we weren't complete dicks about proprietary accessories, we might get this sale." but i'm just a guy on the internet, so what do i know.
i did get to put a mag through a shorty (10.5") hk416 a few months back. it was nifty, but as my total ar experience consists of those 30 rounds plus 10 or so through a weird ass oly arms .45acp conversion, i can't say much other than "do all ar's wobble?" -

I'm with the whole space gun forget it crowd. Give me a goddamn M4 and send to Iraq. Now, if they were going with the same type of weapon as the M4 that just uses a larger round, be my guest, I don't want to have to find a way to double tap and get away with it (I swear Sir/Ma'am, he had another weapon and was threatening me)

The punch line is that the M-8 is rod-operated and the M-4 is gas operated (unless you have an M-4A4, which you don't.) Rod operated weapons, such as the AK/AN series of rifles are more reliable and require much less maintenence.
Since when do you need permission to use a double tap? Isn't that a CTT - reflexive fire, or was I in the wrong Army? Has the UCMJ been updated with Article 125b, double tapping? Has so much changed in the two months I've been absent?
