When do you whip it out?

I have a couple of questions for you guys that carry, whether it's a knife or a gun.
When would you draw your weapon?
Would you draw on somebody who didn't have a weapon, but was a threat to you?
If you carry and you do get into a fight but you don't feel the need to draw your weapon does that leave you more open to getting your weapon turned on you?

I appreciate any answers. I know some of you have done some tactical training whether it was with knives or guns, I'm also interested in what your instructors said.

I'd draw on an unarmed person if they were signifigantly larger or i felt they presented a real threat to me. I carry in a fanny pack (shutup) so i dont think it would be used against me since it's concealed and not paticularly readily accessable. if you dont know it's there.

I'd draw on multiples, i'd draw on anyone armed.

I would also add that in the defence of another person i would draw but it depends on the situation. for example. If I were driving along and i saw a male and female argueing along side the road. They beging to fight physically, I might stop and call the police but i would not get involved until there was a threat to my self or another weapon involved.

Define whip it out?

Put the weapon in your hand but keep it concealed (ie. putting your hand on the folder clipped to your pocket), or actually drawing the weapon on someone?

Brandishing a weapon is considered a crime where I live.

My daddy once told me not to pull a gun unless you are ready to kill that person. Because if they have a gun you can be sure they are going to kill you now, or if they can take your gun away they aren't going to hesitate like you did.

And that fits in with my overall philosophy: Be the firstest with the mostest.

When I pull my gun on water bottles,I shoot to kill.

I think of it like a police type thing. If they're presenting an imminent threat such as a weapon about to be used, draw and fire. If they're threatening with a weapon but not in a position to effectively use it just yet, draw and take aim and let them know you mean business.

I think it's really a situational thing. Someone trashtalking and coming towards me with a weapon but not clearly about to use it, draw and aim. Someone swinging a weapon at me, make space as you draw and fire.
