i don't know exact distances.

if you're comparing it to something like a bow and arrow, then not very far. if you're comparing it to other sticks, then very far.

basically it just has to cover enough distance to hit an animal... i suppose you could sneak up and keep enough distance not to alert it before you throw.

Chemical weapons, maybe? Nerve, blister and blood agents will **** up lots of people REAL quick if they don't have NBC gear.

War boomerangs had to be able to disable a human being. The returning kind were used for birds and small animals.

occasionally it might have been used to hit other people but that's about it. it's not like aboriginals had huge scale wars throwing boomerangs at each other.

You know, I was a chemical officer when I served. Chemical weapons aren't quite what they're cracked up to be. There's only a few instances where they'd be effective, casualty producing weapons, the rest of the time they just force the enemy to assume MOPP and make them less effective. Persistent CW are used to deny terrain to enemy manuever, and non-peristent ones just evaporate and will only be highly lethal in stable air conditions, which rarely occur.
