When Omega says most TKD is **** he knows what he is talking about. Not all TKD is **** only 80% of it and unfortunately it's also the most poplular because most people are sheep.

Admit it. You're all grossed out, yet you find yourselves oddly curious as to how I've achieved such a feat.

    80%?

You have more faith in my art than I do.

    I put it at 99.9%...

I wish Master Cho wasn't so humble.

The SK government should have made him a national treasure....for preserving Korean badassness.

I include Moo Do Kwan, Moo Yeah Do, Tang Soo Do, Hwarang-do and some schools of Hapkido in that mix.

To me there is "traditional kempo" and "modern reinterpretted kempo." Traditional Kempo is mostly what you see blasted on these forums...slap happy nonsense, long bastardized katas from other systems, too deadly to spar techniques, etc.... The reinterpretted Kempo I see as the ignoring of the useless dogmas and traditions that came before it, and instead is a reutilization of the same techniques in efficient ways. For example with an infighting technique, instead of working off defending a comitted punch, we'd work off moving in with jabs to close the distance and then continue with the technique drilling it with resistance.

Now I have little knowledge on any Kung Fu techniques (let alone telling the difference between the hundreds of different styles) but I was wondering if you were taught set self defense techniques in addition to your kata that you felt were ineffective and simply ignored on your path to finding your own fighting style.
Difference between Kempo and Kung-fu in my experiance is that Kempo is actually looking for a definitive defense in a technique while the forms I learned were just there to simulate movement similiar to shadow boxing. We did entire sets, "Leopard fist set" for example, that were all of 3 to 12 movements long but they were all interchangable. After you learn them it was intended that you "try them out" if they didn't work you didn't use them. Simple. There were very few "forms". I cross trained with Kempo/Kenpo guys all the time and I found the techniques "interesting" to say the least. The idea of the five ancestors or five family system (depends upon the translation) was that no one set of techniques were designed for everybody, you had to find the techniques that best suite yourself. So this whole idea of "this is the way you do it and that's it" was pretty wierd to hear until I started listening to other "masters" I thought it was quite silly.

    I see.

Despite cross training with She Who Must Not Be Named, I still consider myself of Moodukkwan man. If ever there was a style that could have been something more, it was the MDK.

Why do you include Hwa Rang Do on that list?
