First fight (kind of) - advice please

This weekend I'm doing a demo MT fight on a show, and was just after some tips about dealing with nerves and what to expect - any anecdotes from people's first time in the ring etc appreciated.

In my opinion (from limited ring experience) the worst part, as far as nerves go, is when you're in the ring right before the fight starts. You're getting pumped up mentally to fight. You've just stepped into the lights and now everyone's attention is focused on you. The announcer does his thing and you're now looking across the ring at your opponent and they're looking back. The bell rings and you take a few steps towards each other. This is the worst part to me. Then the first shot is thrown and all the tension is gone and you're just fighting. Anyway, I hope that helps you prepare mentally.

    Cool stuff Lothene, what show/channel/time??

Not that I have fought in the ring at all, but I think performance anxiety is the same in any venture - fighting, playing a gig etc. Just visualize it beforehand going really well and make sure you have all your preparations sorted out so you don't get stressed about the little things.

    I'm sure you'll do well!

There's not really anything i can think of to do for nerves, just deal with it up until fight time, I find that as soon a the announcer calls me and my ring music starts playing and the crowd starts cheering that nervousness pretty much goes away.

Even Mike Tyson said he gets scared before every fight.

Pretty much you'll wind up waiting in a backroom until they call you, you walk out, do your thing, and then it's all over, simple as that.

Just keep telling yourself that you kick ass.

Same way for presnetations in class for me. If its something I can dominate and know really well, I rule and I know it. So just convince yourself that you are going to dominate. Makes it that much easier.

Anyway, i'm sure you will do well.

I have my first fight coming up too (4th June) so I know how you're feeling my friend. The only advice I was given was "don't get hit" and "keep your hands up". Inspirational ;) Good luck!
