    Thanks for the responses

You make an important point Omega and I agree with what you are saying. But It is also difficult not to comprimise pragmatism for technicality. I mean, whilst one does not get taught JKD, It wouldnt be logical for me to outline the entire process through which we are provided the tools that the indavidual employs to explore what JKD is, when the words "learn" or "being taught" paint a similarly expressive picture with much less difficulty. I am under no illusions that all the stuff I will be shown is stuff I have to mimic perfectly, or even remember, when only certain things will be of use to me. This is not a traditional martial art, and I do not see it as such. However, again, there must be some sembalance of structure for the student to progress. Oh, and to the guy who recomended I drop the Hapkido, I happen to enjoy some traditional aspects of the art. And again I recognise the need for pragmatism, hence my training in JKD and MT and Kali as well as the Hakido.

Trapping was a good theory that never evolved. I love how important trapping is to many JKD enthusiasts. Funny thing is, if BL added boxing what does it tell you about trapping?

Well, lets see. There's Eric Paulson. And then there's ..... Eric Paulson.

THere's somebody else too, can't remember his name...ponytail, JKD. Oh I know, Eric Paulson!

THere was also somebody in an early UFC that claimed JKD. He came in, tried to play patty-cake, and then was taken down and had his lunch money stolen.

JKD probably isn't ragged on too much here because of Matt Thornton and the generic "idea" of JKD...which runs parallel to what Bullshido espouses.

However, the few JKD instructors I've seen fluctuate between "Wing Chun without uniforms" and "Mixed Martial Arts called JKD"...so it's really hard to form an opinion on the system as a whole.

I've yet to see a JKD school that didn't spar hard, though...which is usually a good indication.

Wait, I posted in this thread...damn, I'm gay now.

    As a German-American, I am offended by Satori's post.
